VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Oct. 8, 2013) - EasyPark ispleased to announce our Lot 2 facility at Pender and Cambie is the next Vancouver Heritage Foundation Plaque site. EasyPark's lot 2 sits on the site of Vancouver's 1st Hospital and will be the most recent site to be designated with a plaque as part of the Places That Matter project.
Vancouver's 1st hospital was a tent destroyed during the great fire of 1886, which was replaced by a small 9-bed facility that didn't meet the needs of Vancouver's quickly growing population. In 1888 the 1st City Hospital was built on the corner lot between Pender, Beatty and Cambie Streets. It was replaced in 1906 with the newly built Vancouver General Hospital. The original building was demolished in the 1940s.
Join us to learn more about the history of Vancouver's First City Hospital this Wednesday, October 9th at 2pm as we commemorate the early days of health care in Vancouver! Meet us near the Pender Street entrance of EasyPark Lot 2 - 150 W Pender.
About Places That Matter
Places That Matter is all about collaboration - and sharing the unique and lesser known history of the people, places and events that have shaped Vancouver since its incorporation as a city in 1886.
Places That Matter evolved from the Vancouver 125th Anniversary celebrations in 2011. VHF asked the public to nominate a place, person, or event that is important to the City of Vancouver but that has yet to receive the acknowledgement it deserves. An independent committee made up of local historians, artists, students, heritage consultants, writers and educators reviewed the nominations and eventually 125 Vancouver stories were selected to be celebrated with a researched blue plaque. Each plaque with a QR code brings the smartphone user directly to this page.
